Anyone Can Add You to a Facebook Group
I read an article this morning regarding Facebook's new Group feature. Groups have been overhauled and apparently Facebook users can add their friends to any group that they choose. Nothing really over exciting about this in terms of concerns. Why shouldn't your friend add you to a group? I think that is a great idea, if you receive a notification that you have been added to the group and you have to approve that. Unfortunately, this is not currently the case. You do not get a say in whether you appear in that group or not.
Now, you can decide to remove yourself from the group that you have been added to. Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, was added to a group that he apparenly did not want to belong and he simply removed himself. Word is, that once a 'friend' adds you to a group that you 'ungroup' then that friend can no longer sign you up or add you to other groups. They have been naughty and Facebook will slap them for it!
So, are there benefits to having a Group vs. a Page? Well, one thing that comes to mind is that with a group, it has a potential to go viral quickly. All of your friends can add a friend to your group, and their friends can add a friend and so forth. So, the short term gain can be quite good for exposure. A page, on the other hand, is visible to everyone but a group is not by default. You can make the Group visible to all.
