Everywhere you look, things are always changing. Whether it is a change in your personal life, or a change at work, there is always something new to learn. In business, many industries require staff to regularly attend training or certification courses. New research brings new methods. New technologies lead to new software and devices. In this newsletter, I am going to make the assumption that you or your company already has a website. Having a website for your business nowadays is almost mandatory to be successful. Have you ever taken the time to search for your website in Google or Yahoo? I'm not talking about searching your company name, I am talking about searching by using a word which your potential customers would use to find you. Say you owned a flower store in Toronto. Being in business, we all know the value of a customer. Without customers, we wouldn't be in business. The big question before Google, has been how do you find your customers? Has it been through print advertising, over the airwaves, a sales force? Regardless of the method, you can never stop searching for more customers.
For most people, searching the internet for a product or service, usually involves going to a search engine such as Google, typing in a keyword, and waiting for a list of results to be returned. For, 99.9% of people using a search engine, they have no idea why ‘that’ specific list of search results was returned in ‘that’ particular order. And that’s okay. In today’s economy, your website is your image, it’s your brand, it’s an extension of your company. The image you portray, and the message you convey, are everything. One of the keys to operating a successful website is the ability to convert your visitors into a lead or inquiry, and ultimately, into a paying customer. You can have a lot of traffic, but unless you are converting your traffic into customers, it’s the same as being located by a busy highway without an off ramp to your business.
